RMS-154 Barzam

B-CLUB 1/144 resin cast kit

A mass produced MS that appears in Z Gundam about half way through the series. It is more or less a cheap imitation of its more glamourous cousin, the Gundam Mk.II (and yours truly favorite MS) in combination with RGM-79R GM II. Somehow its performance ended up closer to the latter. :-)

The model

Released around the same period as the Byarlant, I also suspect that these 2 are from the same sculptor, since the style of arranging internal mechanism details are very similar. Whoever it was, the sculptor certainly did a great job of converting a rather unrealistic design into a detailed/ believable piece of machinery. The poseability is pretty good also by resin kit standard (I, however, after 5 years eventually to wear out its upper leg poly-cap).

On the constructing front though, the upper arms and legs are being halved like a conventional plastic kit which is rather unusual for resin kit (rather than making it one piece). So basically, it could have been better designed on that regard. That said, the overall construction was a breeze (as I remembered, it's been a long time).

The kit did come with a beam weapon, but it looks funny (for my taste) so I omitted it.

As usual, a light crystal is used in place of the mono-eye to add unity among my other models. This time though it was so small and the visor almost block all its visibility that the only photo I managed to show it is this old one.

Painting

I started first with the yellow parts using cream yellow (forgot the number), and then proceed with the main areas using Blue Angel (#328) plus #300 something gray to tone it down as a base color. After that I added a drop of Navy Blue (#14) to the Blue Angel to accent around the edge and panel line area. Navy Blue is also used again as the dark area, this time accented by Midnight Blue (#71).

I airbrushed the nozzle/burner area with acrylic flat black as well, for a bit of weathered effect. Washing was then done by flat black enamel. Since the overall color scheme is dark, I decided to use black instead of gray for a more clarity of the line.
