intro by MetalSlime

This S type Zaku is a customized F type, aiming for better performance. Even though the exterior was the same as F type, the main/sub thrusters were redesigned to gain 30% more output power and 3 times relative speed compares to the conventional model.

The original 1/100 Char's Zaku kit was one of my favorite, back when I starting out. I think I must have built a couple of them and one 1/144 kit then. Ever since then, I always craved for a decent Char's Zaku kit to display (all those kits were long gone). Now 15 years later, I finally gotten to make one.

My interpretation here, was to create somethng that bridge the gap between the conventional designed Zaku and Katoki's F2 type. Borrowing some of the features from the F2 like the chest armor, backpack and detailings. At the same time, I added some verniers to justify the 30% increase in performance of the Char Zaku over F type. Keep in mind that all this was decided quite sometimes before PG Char's Zaku was out. Besides I think the PG version of Char's addition looks stupid anyway.

This kit, the 1/144 HG Zaku II, is a scaled down version of MG Zaku II. The joint/pose-ability is quite good. Although in the final stage, very little of the original structure remains in use here. The only real complaint I have with the kit is that it looks like an MG (which I hate with a burning passion).

1. Isometrical view 2. The front skirts panal lines are patched up; the upper legs are heavily puttied as well. 3. Backpack Zaku F2 style, with the rounded parts made from Wave's H-eye. 4. Polycap cover made from plastic plate. 5. The lower leg is remodeled to resemble FZ/F2 style. 6. A Katoki style chest. The side is extended for a more 'macho' feel.

 7. The remodeled arm structure plus some added details. 8. Pattern using plastic sheet. 9. I added a minus mold on the back of the head. 10. Gouf's shoulder armor is modified with new spike and ventilation holes. 11. Side verniers: an extruded platform is carved on the leg and added vernier made from plastic pipe. 12. The amechanism for attaching magazine or bazooka.

Painting

The light colored area is painted using the ever famous 'Max' method. Though it doesn't show very well here since the lighting was way too strong. I started by doing the shadow first with flat black (after primer, that is), then primed again with white. The pinkish color is form with shine red+lots of white and clear orange. Th dark area consisits of monsa red and shaded with maroon.
