Desert Zaku construction details

Exploded view, Tamiya catalog style.

 Arms

The whole arm is taken from a Zaku F2 (0083) garage kit (I made a copy to used on many Zaku variation). It was a fix-pose kit though. In this case I full-actionized it with the usual arrays of poly-cap, ball joint and a Wave's hinge (forgot what it's called).

The most complicated part was to carefully carved the static resin joint to fit perfectly with the replacement joint. Of course, I can just simply apply polyester putty later, but lazy as I am...

I divided the bazooka in to 2 pieces to make it removable from the shoulder rack which was supposed to be locked around the weapon all the time.

The original spikes were rather dull, I replaced it with sharper ones. I also created a line on the armor to make it look more like 2 pieces joined together, but didn't bother making it actually separate.

A couple of 'handle bar' were glued at the end of the shield. These were taken from my friend's MG Gundam kit (without he knowing it, of course). heehee

Both this armor and the other side use ball joint to attach to the shoulder.

 Legs

The leg is the part that has gone through numerous changes in structural execution over the past several years that the project took.

In this final rendition, The resin groin (from a fixed-pose kit) is pegged with Wave's B-joint. The female half of the joint is put on a plastic sheet platform in the upper leg. It's hole also needed to be enlarge to accommodate the joint which is considerably larger than it's own joint.

The knee joint is a small ball-joint, which is rather unusual for the knee because it gave limited range of movement. That's why this model couldn't bend its knee very well. All the joints got hidden under the seal.

Each part of the leg are from different kit:
Upper leg is from MS-06F/J kit, lower leg from Desert Zaku's own, while the foot is a GK.

Notice that a tissue paper is used as a seal by wrapping it around the joint before assembled of the upper leg.

 Weapons

If there's one thing I can't complain about the original kit, it is the fact that it's jam packed with load of weapons (still, I added some more). Some of which are done pretty well consider how old it was, like the shoulder mouthed bazooka.

At the bottom of the back pack, I made an additional sensor using plastic pipe, rod, and photo-etch detail part.

The 3 rear propellant tanks are all extended (not show in pic).

The white parts are those taken from resin kit.

Ready to be painted. Well, almost.
