RX-78 GP-02A Gundam "Physalis"

GONG 1/144 resin cast kit

Introduction by Metal Slime

RX-78GP02A "Physalis" a.k.a. Atomic Gundam an Anaheim Electronic's prototype MS, code-named "Physalis". Intended for atomic bomb test, it's equipped with an Atomic bazooka, Coolant Shield System. It was stolen by Zeon remnant's ace pilot Anavel "Nightmare of Solomon" Gato.

The garage kit

This one is an event-only kit from a (relatively) famous GK studio, GONG. Given the state of its plastic kit (CRAP!) counterpart, this kit to me is almost heaven sent. Although the kit is a little small, the BFG more than compensate for it. The details are plenty and pretty crisp. It's just too bad that some of them are obscured bythe huge shoulder armors.

The only thing I did that differ from out of the box is to replace the resin hand with Kotobukiya's white metal one. Else, I couldn't figured out how it could hold that huge shield (with the included resin hand). Attaching the bazooka also proved problematic and needed some work around. With the help of epoxy and some patience, this was cured.

And oh, you might want to know that after this photo session, the kit has fallen apart into pieces!! (during transportation) Urrrgh more work for me again...

Painting

It's refreshing to paint a Gundam that doesn't wear the same ol' primary triad over white color scheme. I've grown very tired of that sceme more with each passing days. It was, well, cartoonish, I suppose.

The gray used wa a variaions on Gunze #11 plus perhaps a dark sea gray for accents. For bazooka, I poured just about every metallic colors I found lying in front of me together. Those include steel, burnt iron, black metal, and probably a couples more. Perhaps, it doesn't matter though since any dark metallic with silver dry-brushing would yield roughly the same result.
