Well, for a change, the intro was written by yours truly... 3 years after the monumental one-year war, Ahanheim Electronic was commissioned to start a secret project involving 2 Gundam prototypes. The RX-78GP02A, nicked name Physalis, is one of the 2 prototypes sent out for testing at Torrington base, Australia in 0083 (with the other being the GP01). Its gigantic bazooka housed a nuclear warhead, with the coolant system in the shield. As typical Gundam plot would have it, it was conveniently stolen by one "Nightmare of Solomon" Anavel Gato, an ace pilot of Zeon, as part of their revival plan. With the non-nuclear weapon treaty clearly has been broken, the Delaz Fleet of Zeon finally felt justify in declaring war with the federation. The Mobile Suit was later sacrificed during the fight with Kou Uraki's upgraded GP01 in space, but not before considerable amount of damage has been dealt to the federation's force. |

Well, last time I mentioned this kit fell apart while transporting back home after a photo shoot session (for the old page). This here, is taken in a session after his "revival", about a year later (and about a year and a half ago of when I type this -- confused yet?). I took the opportunity to add some mobilities to the upper body. As a result, there were some more variety in posing this than last time. Garage kit It's a fixed-pose resin kit from GONG (whom I believe, is now part of Alterlier Sai) for JAF-CON. With the release of MG GP02A a couple years ago, it seems that the general public had all but forgotten the atrocity known as Bandai's 1/144 GP02A kit. I think I got this in 96 or so, and couldn't be thankful enough being spared having to work on the aforementioned horrid plastic kit. The proportion is quite exaggerated. The the bazooka is gigantic, while the MS is quite small. This was probably done in purpose to make the features really stands out. Well, of course I am bias, but I still prefer this rendition than the Katoki-esque MG. |

So what's new here? I wasn't in the mood to tackling the lower body parts, nd make it a complete full-action, since they were pretty much still intact after I broke the model. But pretty much most of the upper body is separated. Adding joints went smoothly for the most part, but they proved not to be tight enough to handle the bazooka, whose weight I never had to worry about before in fixed-pose mode. Naturally, I solved this just by drill the whole way through it with the largest drill bits I have. Another things I took the time to change is the increase the overall height by 3mm at the torso. It still isn't enough to match my overly tall GP01 though, but this is as far as I'm willing to go before the proportion starts to look funny. |
| After, like 3 years, in fixed pose mode, the weapons can finally be removed at will. Woohoo | The torso has been added some 3mm of layering. Basically to bring the overall height up to scale. | Ball joint will let you do this. |
| I didn't seem to have any plastic rod size that would fit with polycap I tried to install on the elbow here. Luckily, a tooth pick that happens to be nearby did fits! | With some tinkering, the inside components of the shoulder shield are movable now. | Lower body is still fix, as previous. |
| Originally, the weight of the bazooka was quite troubling. I drilled out the inside with the biggest drill bit I got. This reduced the weight into typical plastic kits range now. The shield, as usual, still pretty heavy. | Didn't bother to cover the newly added polycap at all. It's mostly obscured by the shield anyway. | |

(Re)Painting I tried to mix the color to match the old one as close as I can. Thankfully I didn't need to completely redo the whole thing. Save for the bazooka, these were mostly touch up jobs. I now find that the blue color I used on the chest previously to be too dark, so I altered it with some light oversprays (but not completely repaint). The backpack color was changed from metallic to neutral gray (plus shading), same as the GP01 I finished a few days earlier. I decide to keep the old page around to get a few good chuckle at sometimes. >> |
