Hi-Nu Gundam is the novel version of Nu-Gundam. Designed by Yutaka Izubuchi, the Hi-Nu Gundam made its first appearance on the page of New Type back in 1990 (I think). With main differents from ordinary Nu Gundam being its funnel host in the shape of wings. The first Model of it, is a scratch-built 1/120 by Youshihiro Kan in August '90 issue Hobby Japan. After that, the first garage kit of it start appearing in 96 (this one) followed by 1/220 and 1/100 later on. This kit comes with 84 resin parts of some what high quality. The sculpting is very nice especialy when compare to its plastic kit counterpart (duh!) while the structuring/ joints seem rather awkward at times. Like the use of 3mm poly-caps on the shoulder which clearly couldn't support the weight of its arm and shield. Even worse is the leg joints had me improvised a lot with epoxy and plastic rod. Attaching the fin-funnels via tiny ball is not much fun either. |

Painting The scheme required extensive masking all over, but once you get passed that, the colors themselves are easy to mix. I used Gunze Sangyo's white (1) with no flat base or anything sprayed over a coat of Tamiya primer. The blue parts are cobalt blue (80)+ a little light gray and one drop of red. Then intermediate blue (56) is used for shading. Later on though, I found the painting to be too dark for my liking. Oh well... If I had another try at it, I'd paint it a little differently. |
