Notice some of my friends getting stomped by the Neo-Geo. :-)

PMX-003 II Neo-Geo

Kotobukiya 1/144 scale resin kit

 Neo-Geo A.K.A. The-O II "Hauer" (in Kondo's universe, that is) is more or less another version of The-O designed by Makoto Kobayashi (who also designed the original The-O). It features most of the design element from its ancestor but with more elaborate design. I suppose that as with his original Baund Doc, the design is simply too complicate to animate on TV, so it's gotten watered down into The-O that we see in the show.

 The kit

This kit comes with 34 well sculpted parts (63 counting duplicates) which is considerably few for kits this detailed, even for garage kits. That helps make it rather easy to finish.

This kit certainly is a memorable one for me. As it was during New Years eve of either 95 or 96, I sprayed the primer for all parts in the bathroom before leaving that night. When I came back, I was so totally drunk (that I hardly remembered where I went!) , I go straight to the bathroom throwing up and lay there unconcious till the next day. And you can imagine, I woked up with this heavy hang over and surrounded by all these horrible odor of the primer! Ahhh, memories.... ^^;

 Construction

Despite having many heavy parts, I never needed to pin any of them. All the parts came with genorous amount of contacting area, so epoxy glue is sufficient.

Included also, are a pair of hands with larege claws for attaching to the front skirts. I wanted a folded mode, plus I was too lazy so those were left out. This, assuming that it can be folded inside the skirt just like The-O did. Right now though, I might redo it and attach those arms, as I start getting to like that look lately.

The Devil in details

Painting

If you've seen any pics of it before, you might be wondering why I painted blue, right?

I've seen the Neo-Geo painted in so many scheme that I don't know anymore what official color is. Originally it's the same color as The-O in Newtype. When it first became model, the one shown at Wonfest, was painted white with green spots. While in 'Kondo's universe', its color ranged from white for the snowfield version to all sort of militaristic schemes.

So, I thought to myself: Screw it all! Since it's one of the few large (ok, very large) MS I do, I want to give it some unique personality colorwise. The Nightingale is already red, and I want to reserved white for the G-3, plus Xamel is already tan/ brown. Now blue seems to be the logical happy medium.

After priming (urrrgh), I airbrushed primarily a shade of my favorite blue: the Gunze's intermediate blue (#56). It was mixed with light gray to break it down a little. I used navy blue+white for accents. After that I overspray the whole thing again with original color to give it some uniformity.

With as much texture as this kit, it certainly screams for dry-brushing. White and air superiorty blue is used. Metalic parts are painted flat black+dark iron and dry-brushed chrome silver. Chrome silver is also used again for hydrolic parts.
