This
is the only Kaiyodo Gundam kit ever produced as far as I know.
And that's too bad. The quality of the sculpt is really good
and really enhance the design (by Izubuchi, BTW).
The
fitting is different story though. It's hard to have the kit
pose in a balanced manner. One of the shoulders or legs tend
to be higher than the other thus requiring constantly adjusting
of positions. Very annoying.
To
support the shoulders weight, serveral brass rods are needed
but it was very awkward with the positions used to join them.
Obviously, not the most fun part to work on.
Oh,
and if you're really knit picky, you'll probably notice the
missing antenna n the head. Well, what can I say? These parts
required you to cut out a sheet of plastic and I was really
too lazy at the time. I still might do it someday. Oh well..
Modifications
Despite
being a fixed-pose kit, I can't resist adding a little movability
here and there. So I used a few ball joints on head, shield
and all 4 propellant tanks enable a bit of variation on posing
Another
minor thing added is the shield texturing with putty. I wanted
to give it a gritty look in contrast to the almost brand new
MS (or MA, whatever).
Painting
I
use a mixture Gunze Sangyo reds including shine red (79), red
madder or Monza red (68) and perhaps red (3) in a ratio unbeknown
to me ;-). And I must have added some sort of light gray to
lighten the tone as well. For the shading, I use the remains
of those colors and added either mahoghany or dark brown. The
propellant tanks are painted aircraft gray (73) and shade it
with..perhaps a seagull gray.
Weathering
There
are 2 types of wash at work here. One for panel lines is Tamiya's
flat black and the other for dirts and grease stuff is an oil-based
paint: raw umber.
I
did a little drybrush on the shield texture with light gray
over navy blue (14) and midnight blue (81).
