MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam

This ZZ-Gundam opens a new era of Transformable Mobile Suits, which is based on all the technical know-how of AE/AEUG. It is denoted the 10th Gundam under the code name Theta.

Making a return in this incarnation of Gundam is the core block system concept, first introduced in UC0078. While the concept was also incorporated in the prototype (MSZ-009/no data found) to be a transformable atmospheric/space MS (VMsAWrS: Variable MS and Wave Rider System), it was ommited on some early design variation units (FAZZ) pre-tested during the ND’s rebel incident.

The most prominient feature is the G-Fortress, which can be reconfigured into many froms. These includes Core Top (top half+beam rifle) and Core Base (Core Fighter and lower half). Among its arsenal, are the double beam rifle and the super lethal head-mounted hi-mega cannon.

Among all the HG Gundam series out at the time, I'd rank the ZZ, one of the better of the pack. Out of the box, it's pretty ugly (almost like a model version of the HCM!), but nothing that some acrobatic paint scheme wouldn't fix, or at least detered the attention from its proportion a bit.

This was one quick project I did years ago (94, I think). I've had it primed, and left it unfinished for a long time. Until one night I that can't really sleep, so I got out of bed at 4am and start an impromtu painting session. The pattern is lifted from an old HJ, with colors altered a little. Consider the whole painting/wethering took only 4-5 hours (before I finally got back to sleep), I was pretty happy with the result. As usual, I demonstrated my dislike for Okawara's tasteless fillers by filling up all those extra panel lines.
