Deggial or Dejjial, is a figure being told in an Arabian folklore as being a name of the anti-god. "An unbeliever of the sons of God, disbeliever of the book". He has one eye and one brow, with a mark of cefer on his forehead (which represents infidelity). Concept As with the "Therion" model, I need to make some sort of character to use in my proposed stop-action animation project. I picked the mythical figure as a theme, and do a mechanical representation of it. This is for an animation studio class. It was normally meant for either traditional hand-drawn or 3D computer animation, but I had decided early on that I feel like experimenting with stop-action imposed on a computer generated backdrops. It was a hard sale. The Prof. was reluctant to allow it at first. But I did have one finished model, the Therion, from semester previous, so after a few pitches, I was able to convince him. Of course, my prop to him for being big enough to go along with my ever so sketchy plan. :) Since I already have a turtle, I was thinking it probably be suitable to emulate some sort of other beast. As it happens, a bird was picked, or more specifically a vulture. I have no particular reasons other than I thought it would be quite simple to represent its character with just a few tweaks, and that it seems to go with an image of being a heretic that is Deggial pretty well. Hmmm... I guess there were reasons afterall.... ^^; |

Execution As usual with deadlined project, you wouldn't normally get to spend as much time perfecting it as you would have liked. In this case, I made do with what's available (time, resource). After several rough sketches, I concluded on using the Ishtar Mk.2 kit for a base, as I'm less inclined to sacrifice any of my Gundam kits. :) I finished the storyreel using the slap together Ishtar, and only after it was approved did I started putting much thought into the actual design. I don't have access to most of my kit stock as I'm not at home during the making of this. Therefore my choice of kits was pretty limited to just a few I have on hand. Fortunately though, I happened to have lots of junk parts and accessories to spare. With that in mind I used them to help hinder/alter the image of the base kits -- in attempt to comeup with something half-original. Seeing that I did take quite a bit of progress pictures for the ptoduction notebook, I'll simply slap them on the "making" page. Despite how simple/uninteresting the process actually was. :) |

Painting The figure was to be filmed against blue screen (or yellow screen for that matter), as to not risk screwing up the mask in post production later on, I decided on monochromic color scheme. As a result, the the overall look of the finished piece happens to pay some homage to the Gundam Mk.V, with it's missile pot component, and color scheme. It's not intentional though. Not wanting to stick with just the blue, I added some accentuation in places with a light spray of red. This yields some nice purple-ish touches here and there. Liven things up a bit (Probably not too noticeable with these pics). |
